Matt heads the firm’s Tax-Exempt Finance practice and is the firm’s Hiring Partner in Atlanta.  The focus of his practice is representing issuers and underwriters in public and private bond offerings for state and local governments and non-profit organizations.

Matt has represented the issuer, the underwriter or the conduit borrower in a broad range of tax-exempt financings, including airport, surface transportation, health care, education, housing and energy financings.  Matt has also represented credit and liquidity providers in structuring and documenting public finance transactions and has also represented creditors and trustees in workout and default situations.

Matt is a member of the Atlanta and American Bar Associations.  He is also a member of the Local Government Section of the State Bar of Georgia and the National Association of Bond Lawyers and is a fellow in the American College of Bond Counsel.  Matt was recently named to Georgia Trend magazine's “Georgia’s Legal Elite,” and in the past he was selected as a “Georgia Super Lawyers Rising Star.”  In 2004 Matt was appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue to the Public Finance Options task force of the Governor’s Commission for a New Georgia.

Matt currently serves as general counsel to the Atlanta Bar Association and is on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Wildlife Federation, Georgia’s oldest and largest wildlife conservation organization.
