Training Sutherland is one of the top-ranked firms in the country for both formal and informal training. Through SABLE (Sutherland Asbill & Brennan Legal Education), the firm's in-house training program for our lawyers and clients, we offer more than 100 substantive and skills-based courses throughout the year. SABLE is designed and implemented by our Professional Development Committee, which is made up of lawyers across all offices and practice areas. We also encourage our lawyers to attend seminars outside the firm, at firm expense.
In addition to a comprehensive formal training program, our Career Planning Program, which has been nationally recognized for best practices in professional development, provides a structured approach to career planning through career guidelines, individualized career plans and partner plan advisors. Each associate meets quarterly with a partner plan advisor to discuss the associate’s overall development. This program allows for regular feedback and interaction prior to and as part of the annual associate review process. In addition, we provide training to both partners and associates on how to manage others and provide effective feedback, and we have historically staffed matters leanly, which enhances training and feedback opportunities.
We also encourage associate participation in firm governance. Associates serve on a wide range of committees, including the Hiring Committee, the Pro Bono and Public Service Committee, the Diversity Committee and the Professional Development Committee.
